Practicing Your Faith

The Scotch-Irish, first to arrive in the area, brought with them their Presbyterian faith, followed by the Germans with their Lutheran convictions. Wythe County has a strong religious heritage and a wide array of churches - Baptist (both Southern and Independent), Episcopal, Catholic, Methodist, Pentecostal, non-denominational congregations, Disciples of Christ, Seventh-Day Adventist, and Jehovah Witness.

Joining In

Community spirit runs strong here, and people pull together. So if community service is important to you, you'll receive a warm and friendly welcome from any of the area's service organizations - the Lions Club, Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, and Links Club, just to name a few. Volunteer with other medical professionals on a rotating basis at the Brock Hughes Medical Center, providing nondiscriminatory, quality, primary health care to those residents who cannot afford to pay for services and who have no other access to the health care system. Teaching opportunities for physicians are available at Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg.

Establishing a Practice

Physicians in Wytheville receive a level of compensation nearly comparable to that of physicians in larger cities. Yet their malpractice insurance and other cost of doing business are lower. They also have more opportunity to influence the local health environment. We can help you find reasonably priced office space in the medical office building conveniently located on hospital campus or elsewhere in the community, and we'll help you get your practice up and running.
